About Design Star:  In a series first, the finalists must design the interior and exterior of an entire house – tiny house of just 99 square feet. Each finalist must demonstrate ingenious creativity and savvy space-planning skills in order to execute an inspiring home design that is both comfortable and functional. As carpenters from other HGTV and DIY Network shows arrive to help the finalists complete their work, mentor David Bromstad will coach them as they interact with their crew on-camera, just as they would in a real HGTV show.  Get a sneak peek here!

Oh boy...I can hardly wait ;)  Anybody who reads my blog knows how much I love Tumbleweed's Tiny Houses  and how inspiring that I find the entire movement to be.   How ironic is it that today I find out about the Design Star episode after I just blogged about their many values yesterday!

So when you combine Tiny Houses and HGTV Design Star it's like winning the lottery for me :}

In the meantime, if you just can't wait till the show airs on Monday {like me :}...then you can hop on over to Tumbleweed's blog and find out  if the HGTV design stars have the chops to compete with real-life Tumbleweed Builders?

My favorite is Brittany's {and she's in the lead so far ;} because I love the french country, cottage look that her tiny house has.

Home-schooling...Literally

 

Wow...talk about the value of life skills...this is home-schooling at it's best! 

Sorry for the play on words...but I sure do wish that this part of home-schooling could be incorporated into our current public high-school curriculum.  So many of our teenagers would benefit from learning how to build their own homes.  I could see this encouraging them to stay in school and to have something to look forward to after high-school.  It would give them hope for a future on their own without the burden of sustaining a lifestyle and acquiring huge debt and/or school loans.  It would provide for the freedom of choice...to find employment based on their interests alone and NOT on the salary required to pay their everyday living and debts.  It would encourage travel with the ability to live anywhere in the country that they are curious to discover and learn about...talk about tolerance and character building!  Most of all...it would help them build self-esteem because they would have started and finished  something.  That sense of accomplishment alone would provide the key building block to their self-confidence.

The King & Queen of Gypsies...

OKAY...now I know that I have stated that I have been a military gypsy and that it has forced me to adapt to constantly changing conditions and new living quarters...but this couple...just took my crown ;}

By the end of the video I found myself just laughing with amazement!  AND...I'm really curious about how they bathe and where they go to the bathroom?  Euwweee!

But what the heck...if this lifestyle works for them...MORE POWER TO THEM!  We all waste too much time worrying about "what others think of us" and how our belongings define us. 

Living the life of your dreams requires being brave enough to pursue it regardless of the obstacles you will have to face.  As well as, having an open mind as to what your final vision may become ;)

Home Sweet Home...all 320 sq.ft.

This Mississippi-style "shotgun shack" is Debra and Gary's version of their Love Shack.  Years ago they lived and worked in South America and returned to the United States with only two suitcases apiece.  Soon they found themselves being sucked into the proverbial "American Dream" of always wanting more.  Before they knew it...they were both working two jobs apiece to pay the mortgage on their 2,000 (plus) sq.ft. home. 

Yearning for a simpler life, Debra and Gary decided to give it all up and start over, by purchasing a 320 sq.ft. custom "shack" for which they paid a little more that $15,000 cash for.
