Fall has finally come to North Carolina and it's brilliant colors are peaking everywhere!  But with this beautiful foliage we have also had some fierce winds and storms this week and soon all of the leaves were pulled from their tree limbs.  This was the view from our hotel room earlier this week in Concord, North Carolina where we were staying while my DH had work/meeting this week in uptown Charlotte.

SO to celebrate the end of fall and the beginning of WINTER and the release of Cloth, Paper, Scissors WINTER 2010 Edition of STUDIOS magazine I am having a COMING OUT party here on my blog!

COMING OUT you ask...well previously I posted about my studio being featured in this edition and now that it is hitting the new-stands I want to share it with all of my followers ;)

Colette Gauthier was suffering with cancer.  She had moved into a tiny and dismal rental home.  Recently divorced and alone, she was almost out of hope.

That is when inspiring designer, Kelee Katillac, and Guideposts Magazine stepped up to the challenge of creating a peaceful, healing space for Colette.  The story is featured in the September issue of Guideposts Magazine.

Samaritan's Feet South Africa is a charitable organization based just outside Cape Town, and has grown out of a bigger organization called Samaritan’s Feet, based in the USA. 

Samaritan’s Feet is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing lives through Shoes of Hope distributions around the world. 300 million people wake up each morning without a pair of shoes to protect their feet from injury and disease.

Last week DH and I got to go on vacation for a week to Daytona Beach, Florida and relax and celebrate my big birthday...oh yeah!  I really needed this break where we spent the entire week doing NOTHING but relaxing.

Every morning we slide open the curtains and the sliding door and stepped out onto our balcony where we saw pink sand and turquoise water stretched out for as far as our eyes could see...

 
By ten am, the beach was covered with pink umbrellas...

 
Sunsets brought pink skylines that carried promises of cooler evenings...

 
Followed by the pink moon on the horizon...

 
And moonlight rendezvous on the beach with my very pink skinned DH...can you say sunburn...ouch!  Don't worry it was very mild...I think the pink shirt is making it look brighter...lol

 
Every full moon cast it's pink reflection on the surprisingly calm high tide waters...

 
  Can anyone say...JAWS...dadum...dadum...sorry, I just HAD to go there!

It was a WONDERFUL week and just what I needed and I can't thank my husband enough for making it so special for me by being there with me and for just going with the flow and simply being in the moment!

In the spirit of pink, this week I stopped by and visited a new (to me ;) Pink Saturday blogger, Rebecca of Belle Maison to say hello, introduce myself and, to also wish her a Happy Birthday!  Rebecca has a beautiful blog full of posts showcasing her many shabby chic finds and DIY projects.  There is also alot of vintage bling and pastel glassware and loads of beautiful flora and fauna.

AND that is the message that I want to send to the little girls in Africa when they receive the dresses that I finished for Little Dresses for Africa: which is a non-profit, Christian based organization which provides relief to the children of Africa.  Simple dresses are made out of pillow cases and distributed through the orphanages in Central Africa to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy!

"We're not just sending dresses, we are sending HOPE!"

Pink Saturday: It's a Wednesday's Workshop

This week's Pink Saturday post is actually a Wednesday's Workshop feature because I'm going to show you all how I put together last week's Bloggerette SororityRush Ribbon.   I received a lot of sweet comments and emails from alot of my Sisters so I thought it would be fun to share how I assembled my Rush Ribbon Project.   

 

 

First, just know that I didn't go out and buy alot of items to make this other than a few of the ribbons and some charms.  The rest of the stuff I had on hand and really just wanted to see what I could come up with so that it didn't cost alot of money and time.  My original inspiration came from memories of award ribbons and I thought that I could just purchase some gathered ribbon or trim at the craft or fabric stores...NOT!  Did you know that they make special sewing machine feet that gather and make ribbon trims...and for the award ribbon industry...yeah there is one...for horse races, etc...they have this great big industrial machines for it.  They are like a big production, tool and dye thing...who knew!

RUSH: Bloggerette Sorority & Pink Saturday

A sorority is born: June 25, 2010

Now everyone knows to be initiated into a Sorority - you must "Rush"

 

To rush you must do the following:

 Take this picture . . .and create something with it.

A banner, a hanging, an ATC,

a piece of jewelry, a tag, a card . . . anything!

Print the picture and place it in a frame -

 it doesn't have to be fancy! 

Just use your imagination. The possibilities are endless.

You have inspiration all around you.

After all . . . that's what our blogs do - they inspire us.

This can be as simple or as elaborate as you like.

Then take a picture of your creation.

There are no rules.

Well - except one. 

You must be in the picture too. 

You can always take a self-portrait in a mirror.

Because we all want to see who are "Sisters" are!

 

Then post your picture the day of our Sorority party.

 

So as a PLEDGE, I decided to make a RUSH RIBBON for our party!

The ribbon itself, combines the Sorority's favorites of soft pink, black & white zebra stripes, and strands of pearls.  Pink represents our soft feminine side, while the animal print reflect our wild and strong sides, while the classic pearls represent our collective pearls of wisdom!

 

Starting from the top...you will see the Bloggerrett Sorority Sister's Crown...

because we are all...PRINCESSES of quite a lot!

 

From the crown you will see the Bloggerette Sorority charms...

the Woman's Silhouette charm represents all the Sisters...

the lock  is for protecting all of our Secrets...

and finally, a key allowing entrance to our Sorority!

 

Directly below the crown, you will see the Bloggerette Sorority classic, Sister's photo...

which is framed in soft pink glitter...cause we all love a little sparkle!  Hanging from the Sister's photo are the Bloggerette Sororitydog tags...with more bling!

Next you will find my Pledge Photo, sitting on a medallion of more Bloggerette Sorority ribbons. 

 

AND finally...hanging from my Pledge Photo medallion is a charm chain that is woven with more ribbons and pearls.  This is where I want to hang all of my individual charms as they represent my interests and Sorority Sister charm swaps :)  For now...I have hung a BIG HEART charm (front and center ;), a FLEUR de LEI (cause I'm a Frenchy ;), a PROTECTIVE ANGEL (to watch over all my Sorority Sisters ;), a MESSENGER BIRD (to always spread good thoughts to all ;), and a PAIR OF WINGS (to give flight to all my hearts desire and dreams ;).

In time I want to add more charms as I find ones that I really like, for instance, money for charity, books for reading, pens for journaling, etc.

 

Hope my RUSH RIBBON inspires the rest of my Sisters to have fun with the RUSH PARTY and I can't wait to see what everyone else has created ;)

WABI SABI: Beverly's Pink Saturday

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Pink Saturday, it is a weekly post hosted by Beverly on her blog, How Sweet the Sound.  Beverly first started Pink Saturday by posting weekly about pink things that she found around her home.  For Beverly and her mother, who lives with her, pink represents beauty, love, friendships and a common hope shared by almost everyone around the world.  That was over two years ago and now Pink Saturday has turned into a wonderful way to meet other bloggers with a wide range of interests and talents.

For some time now, I have followed Beverly's blog with my google reader and this week after I bought some beautiful pink peonies at Trader Joe's, I contacted her to see if there was room for one more contributer?  Beverly was so sweet with her welcoming email and so here is my first Pink Saturday post!
