Day 30 of The {31} Purge and I'm down to the rock bottom of things to deal with for this purge...yeah! What's left now are these last few bins and totes...that we just do not need anymore. Especially after downsizing our storage unit and realizing that we do not have the room and/or use for them.
First up is a set of stacking bins that were the perfect size to fit between my washer/dryer in one of our old homes. With their flip-top lids they were perfect for sorting laundry in between loads. Then later on they were converted to recycling bins in our garage and have since been stuffed in storage.
Next to the bins is a box of odd Tupperware lids and a large container that is also great for storing large bulk items like powdered laundry detergent, potting soil, etc., that I no longer use as well. So all of these plastic bins were given to the Grow N'Learn day-care...along with all the other goodies that I've been dropping off. I'm telling you...they are so appreciative of receiving these odd n'ends that it has made this purge somewhat pleasurable {I know I need to get out more ;}
Oh boy...now for the hard part...my art class totes...I love'em like my luggage!
Now these are just the ones that I have in storage...I actually have another one at home that I have my current projects in...ready and waiting {it's the lovely brown, pink and animal print number on the left ;}
"Why do I have so many art tote bags you may be asking?" Well they are just like any other tote bag that you may have for your job or for school...each one functions in a different way. When I'm traveling my car and have more "room"...I prefer to take along my big-ass Creative Memories tote that I've had for years because it is very sturdy; has wheels; has loads of pockets for super organization of all my cutting tools; and it has a hard, zippered top which doubles as an extra work surface when I'm setting up my "studio" away from home.
No matter where I set up my studio...I tend to take over every available surface ;}
Then I've also managed to gather a few different art "boxes" or table totes to hold all of my pens, pencils, paints and other tools and paraphernalia as required to create.
The large black, desk-top organizer to the left is one of my originals and even though I have used it often in the past at several functions. However...even thought it holds ALOT of tools...it no longer works for me...mainly because it is gets real heavy when its loaded. Also, unlike the pink and brown one next to it (that has a spinning mechanism on the bottom) it's hard to move around when placed on a table top in order to find things when you need them. Needless to say...this one is being purged...off it goes ;}
The other bags that I'm purging are both the CM Bag and the black and red crate that are stacked together on the left in the above photos. The crate has a canvas cover with LOADS of pockets. The IDEA of all those handy pockets is far more appealing than their actual function...that being because once you load them all up...you spend all of your time while in a workshop BENDING OVER to find things. NOT exactly the ideal situation...lol The CM Bag is designed to be carried like a tote bag and it stacks on top of the CM rolling cart when traveling to workshops and crops. However...I find it heavy when it is empty and far too bulky to carry when it's loaded.
Soooo... even though they all stack very neatly inside of one another and I could place them right back into my storage unit...I'm not going to do the same thing that I've done with them for the past five years! That is keep them all...just because I spent good money on them...they don't work for me and they are going...end of discussion!
Of course...I'm having this "discussion" all by myself...lol
How about you...do you have a thing for totes?
What is a girl to do when they keep improving the designs and coming out with new colors and patterns ;}
Fondly, Roberta
It is all about the organization inside the storage unit that counts.
