Day 26 of The {31} Purge and it is hard to believe that I am still pulling out boxes of ribbons...holiday ribbons and craft picks to be exact! AND right about now...I am so NOT in the Christmas spirit...perhaps once I get this darn purge over with ;} It might be hard to believe...but I haven't always been in such a foul mood when it comes to "decking the halls". For years...it was a joke around our house that if it sat still...it got a wired-ribbon wreath, decoratively wrapped around it!
Then once I finished decorating our doors, fireplace mantel, staircase banner, and buffets...I started making wreaths for everyone in my family. Like this special mauve, victorian inspired Santa Clause wreath...in the photo below...that I made for my sister's home {can you say late 1990's ;}
However...we didn't stop with the traditionalround wreaths...as you can see in the following photo. This French Horn that has been so heavily adorned...that you really can't tell that it's a French Horn...lol
When it came to gift baskets...I was the fastest assembler on the block!
One year for Thanksgiving, my good friend Sherrie, asked for my wreath decorating skills. Sherrie had been the recipient of a ton of craft items, through a family member's estate, that were just sitting in her garage in boxes {something that I am trying to avoid doing to my family members with this purge ;} So she wanted to make a charitable contribution...one that would make a difference...and one that was in the name, and spirit of, her deceased relative. Sherrie and her family volunteered and made weekly deliveries for Meals on Wheels so we decided to make up some holiday wreaths, and to deliver them by Thanksgiving, to as many of the recipients as possible. Below is a photo that was taken by my parents when they came down to visit that year. This was one of THREE batches of wreaths that Sherrie and I had designed...
Let me tell ya...after that...I was so done with wired ribbons and picks for some time! BUT it really made a difference...even it was a small one...in the lives of the Meals on Wheels recipients and it was so worth it...so much so that if I had the time and energy right now...I would do it all over again ;}
For now these ribbons are going to my sister and her friends...aka...The Craft Divas...where I'm sure they will be putting them to good use.
How about you...do you have any craft supplies that you are hoarding?
Think about pulling them out this season and creating something wonderful and meaningful for someone else.
Fondly, Roberta
