Chalk Talk: Studio Sneak Peek Friday...nothing like a little blog party to get me motivated...
That and alot of rainy weather...Mother Nature is really PMSing...as someone commented ;)
So since I couldn't go out and play...I decided to finally tackle a project that I had been inspired to do for some time...that is creating a magnetic, chalk board, inspiration wall in my studio!
When we first moved into the Love Shack I had bought a couple of white ledges from IKEA because I was so inspired by the ones in their store displays. But then after moving in...I got so overwhelmed with not having ENOUGH wall space that I lost my inspiration and put the ledges on the back burner. Actually they were on top of my dryer in my laundry room right where I'd see them every day to remind me to get off my head around it!
So the first thing I did was hang up the ledges so that the wall anchors would already be in place for me to paint over and so that AFTERWARDS I wouldn't have to mess up my newly painted walls ;) Also, I knew that I'd only want the magnetic part of the wall to be in the main, or middle sections of the walls and this would give me a general idea of where to apply the magnetic wall paint.
As far as measuring for where my ledges were going to be placed...NOPE...I didn't! I simply placed the first one where I wanted it and then eyeballed it from there ;) Once the magnetic paint dried overnight, I painted the entire wall with two coats of black chalk board paint.
Once the chalk board paint was dry, then I re-hung the white ledges.
Then I had fun digging out my box of projects and family photos that I had in storage...I couldn't fit everything out on the ledges or hung on the wall...but I had fun going through it all just the same.
Before I started this project I decided to put one of my Abraham tapes in and the DVD case had this quote on it and it really motivated me to start this project as well...don't you just love it when things work out like that...talk about the law of attraction!!
On another shelf I placed my "R" monogram letter and behind it I have a magnetic page protector with an article titled: "A niche to dream"...how appropriate...and it was stuffed in my treasure box ;)
This ledge shows several of my art projects that I've completed over the past few years along with a family photo of us all gathering for one of our vacations at Pawley's Island, SC.
And finally, on the bottom ledge I've gathered family photos of me and my sister and my niece as we've celebrated our dreams over the years...the photo on the wall is from when Cortney graduated from high school and we all went to see Oprah when she came to Raleigh, NC...a dream realized for all of us. The black and white photo in the collaged frame is of me and my sister at my 40th birthday party...it's one of my favorite photos of us having a blast, drinking and blowing bubbles in the pool ;)
So happy with the way my inspiration wall turned out and that I now have a place to hold all of my special treasures and memories...and so close to my studio! I'll be tweaking it some more as time goes by...but for now it's simply perfect and I'm so likin' it for this sneak peek studio Friday ;)
Be sure to check out all the blog party links for some more inspiration. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Fondly, Roberta

I really like what you did on that small portion of the wall. It is almost a wall decor with a space for storage. You have some great ideas. Great work!

That came out really cute! Love how you wrote beside the one. That is kind of what I am picturing doing in the little eating area of my kitchen. I was going to use full shelves though. But I love the little white shelves!

That is beautiful! I wish I could do that in our space but we can't because we rent. But it would be a great idea for a wall off my classroom and I see the kids really liking it too.

Much to my surprise, as I opened the door and left my office for some lunch, Bobbi is standing there with paintbrush in hand, painting the wall just beyond the door! She looked at me with that, "oh, didn't I tell you about my plan/project?"
I chuckled to myself, "here we go again", lol!
You did a great job DW (Darling Wife)! It really does look super!

Isn't this a perfect project to tell a photo story. I had no idea they make magnetic wall paint. It turned out great! I especially love the shelves in between each...not just a massive black wall. Well done!

by the way, it just makes that whole little corner "pop"- a little wasted space suddenly became this wonderful little useful area! Genius!

Love it!!! Gorgeous! I love magnetic chalk boards! I had my fridge door made to be one! It has a magnetic chalk board just on the fridge part (as it has two separate doors-one for the fridge and one for the freezer)and then I had a turquoise border put around it. Love it, and I use it daily-also for quotes, my grocery list, to-do lists, reminders, messages to the family etc. I think it is necessary thing in the modern homemakers life!

My dil did chalkboard on the door to the basement and uses it all the time. Your idea of the shelves was really great. Loved your stuff.
