Don't even think about it...just do it!
That is the only way that I know of to get started on a big project. Otherwise if I think about it too much then I just might talk myself out of doing it all together. Anyone else out there in blogland who can relate? Case in point for me this week is tackling my bedroom closet. Yesterday, what started out as a PURGE of my bags, has now turned into a total closet makeover and now I'm in the middle of a much bigger mess than I had anticipated. BUT that's okay because the end result is going to be so worth it!
First I pulled down all of the boxes that I use to store and organize my bags. Which made me count them...over 100...and just confirmed that I definetly need to purge them. The reality is that my lifestyle has changed and I just do not use them like I use to because I'm not working out of my home and going into an office and changing out my bags and out-fits anymore. I used ONE purse all winter that was a combination of black/brown leather so that I didn't have to worry about which color clogs I threw on ;)
When we first moved into the Love Shack and arranged the closet we moved the hanging shelf up so that it accommodated these Highsmith boxes that I used to store my bags in. Then we added a second, shorter in length shelf for hanging shirts and pants from to maximize the closet space. Well the short bar was not high enough and I had to be careful what I placed on it so that the clothes didn't drag on the floor. SO once I took the boxes down off the top shelf...I decided tackle the closet shelves once more...which meant taking EVERYTHING out of the closet ;)
Which means that everything had to get dumped on my bed...
and onto the floor in front of my dresser...I did leave enough room for DH to work ;)
Like I said...it's a hot mess...but I did get so much done {even though I can't show off the end results as yet ;} First we moved the top, hanging shelf up 10 inches, leaving room for the existing blue canvas bins, which will hold my remaining bags and seasonal clothes. Next, we completely removed the set of shorter shelves that use to hold the blue canvas bins. Then DH had to run out to the hardware store to get a hack saw so that we could cut the shorter, hanging shelf by six more inches to make room for the new cabinets that are going in place of the wire shelves. After all this was said and done...the walls looked like SWISS CHEESE...so I spent a few hours filling in the holes; waiting for the spackle to dry; sanding down the spackle; touching up the paint; AND then wiped down all the baseboards and vacuumed BEFORE I could hang up the clothes again so that we could climb into bed!
So excited with this project and can't wait to share the final reveal with you all tomorrow. In the meantime I'm linking up with Toni's, One Project At A Time party this week. You all can too if you'd like to see some finished projects...just be sure to tell them Roberta sentcha!
Fondly, Roberta
Wow, good thing Kevin doesn't have to video conference, it looks like a before episode of Hoarders when you empty everything out. I need to give my closet a good emptying out to re-organize too.

So cool! I agree, just do it! The more you think about it, the larger the task seems! I have a big wardrobe clean up looming up too....dreading it!

I cleaned my closet out yesterday and really got rid of anything I didn't "love". For not having much I was surprised how much I was able to let go of. Even Don cleaned his side. We have only a 5 foot wide closet that we share. It does seem like things multiply once the door is shut..lol...Looking forward to seeing the finished job.

Uh, yeah, I can totally relate. It always gets much much worse than expected before it gets better...I can't wait to see the end result! You are an organizing goddess!
