Take a Risk...If you don't like it...you can always go back to your old way of doing things.
Since January, when I saw this Medicine Cabinet Make-Over, I have been contemplating my medicine cabinet. Part of me was very reluctant, I have to admit, because after-all...it's a brand new cabinet and really there is nothing wrong with it?
BEFORE...the inside is all nice and clean and there is plenty of room for all of our stuff...
But it was very brown {tan :} and it just didn't do it for me when I'd open up those doors every morning. Not anymore...because I found some wonderful black and white damask wrapping paper at Michael's and decided to go for it...
AFTER...How do you like me now? I simply measured the inside of the cabinet, cut my paper and pasted it up with some gel medium. Then I smoothed it out, as much as possible with an old credit card and a brayer. It had a lot of air bubbles because the piece was so big and it was hard to get it all down before the gel medium dried out. AND since it's wrapping paper it's very thin paper...so it stretches and tears very easily. BUT I didn't care if it tore...I simply mended it back together and then covered it with another coat of gel medium to protect it in the future from water splashing it...since it is above the sink ;)
Found these great clear acrylic organizers at Bed, Bath & Beyond to sort all of our small stuff that was falling out...one for HER...
AND...one for HIM :}
It may not be perfect...but you all know my motto...
Better Done Than Perfect!
I was so pleased with the final effect that I carried it out into the foyer ;)
Remember, back in the day, when we took another RISK and hung these bathroom cabinets up on the wall in our foyer? Well if you don't...you can get all the details in my original post. Anyhow, these cabinets are actually, over-the-toilet cabinets that we hung upside down so that the open area was where we could reach it as we placed them on this wall. They make for a great catch-all when coming in the front door for keys, ipods, CD's and other STUFF! The only problem with hanging them upside down was that the finish was not that pretty to look at...
It was always my intention to sand down all the surfaces and repaint them so that they were all finished to match or to perhaps sew a fabric runner to place over the two cabinets so that they looked as one on the top. Needless to say...it's been over a year and I never got around to it until now! I was so inspired by the damask paper in the bathroom that I decided to cut up some cardboard that I had laying around and to cover it with the damask paper as well.
See...it's just recycled cardboard covered with some wrapping paper...no big RISK here...if you don't like it than throw it on out ;)
Another benefit is that the cardboard is still thin enough that I can still fit all the items that I had placed there before...like my 3-Monkeys dish ;)
Both the medicine cabinet and the foyer were so worth the risk...even when things happen that you would never, ever dreamed would have been possible!
Here at the Love Shack we only have one bathroom and it is very tiny.
Long before I had found the paper that I wanted to use, I found the organizers and decided to go ahead and clean out my medicine cabinet. Which meant...out with the old and in with the new ;) Well, while doing my PURGE, I dropped one of my glass cosmetics jar and it just happened it hit the bottom of the toilet bowl. The jar of cream had a piece of glass that had chipped off, BUT I was so happy to discover that my cream was okay ;) So I finished cleaning up my medicine cabinet and off I went to run some errands.
Thought nothing more about my bathroom until I got home and had to use the toilet...AND felt it shake a little. Hmmm...I thought...what is up with that?
Then I looked down and saw what looked like a piece of hair on the bottom of the toilet and I reached down and felt it...oh no! I yelled out to my DH..."honey, I think I broke the toilet!"
Seriously...DH came running into the bathroom with a smile on his face...we won't even go there!
What was I thinking...I should have shut my mouth and WAITED until DH used the toilet next and discovered the CRACK and then I could have accused HIM of breaking the toilet with his fat ass ;)
BUT I was so dumbfounded by the FREAK accident that I came clean!
The crack looks worse in the above photo because it's been a few weeks since it happened and I was so pissed off that we had to buy a whole NEW toilet that I wouldn't even go to the store with DH to look for a new one :]
SO it just goes to show you that you can't be afraid to take a RISK. Because there is no way that you can be 100 percent prepared for everything. And YES sometimes things happen that you don't plan on...BUT...things always have a way of working themselves out. AND I am a firm believer in that "things always happen for a reason" we just don't always know the answers when we want them!
{so stay tuned for the new toilet reveal ;}

I love the way the cabinet backing came out, it is really pretty. It's a shame you can't just leave the doors open now. I love that black and white print. It looks great in the front room too. Congrats on another job well done.

Hi Roberta! I just love the way you used that pretty damask wrapping paper. What a great idea! I enjoyed "catching up" and reading your past posts. I found the brownie pop post especially humorous...I was thinking less turd and more male like! :) I've tried making cake balls before and have had disastrous results. There must be some secret to making them successfully, but I haven't found it yet!
I tried to sign up to subscribe to your blog, but it said that I was already subscribing. However, I never receive notification when you post. What am I doing wrong?

You're inspiring me to clean up my medicine cabinet. Yours looks so cheerful and happy! Two things I am not in the morning! Thanks for the great idea and so sorry about your toilet - it's always something isn't it? :)

I have the exact same medicine cabinet here in Florida and a Bed, Bath & Beyond. Got to go shopping now...lol...It never fails when you drop something it always breaks something else.
