Since this is Week 1 of Rhonna's 6 week shape up challenge {for moi ;}...I'm getting all my ducks in a row...as they say. Which means that I'm taking my before photo, as well as my measurements, and putting them all together in my art journal, a.k.a. my food journal. Keeping an art journal will help keep me motivated during this entire challenge because it is will show me where I BEGAN and where I want to BE (goals are good). It will also make this challenge interesting for me because I'll be collaging photos and journaling and will have a creative outlet (so necessary when the going gets tough ;)
So the first thing I did today was pull out my supplies and spread them out all over my desk.
Found this old moleskin sketchbook that I had from The Sketchbook Project 4, which was sponsored by the Art House Co-op in 2009, that I had started and never finished...yikes!
That year the Art House Co-op picked out the sketchbook theme and mine was: The Elephant in the Room...okay...so now you know why I didn't finish! I had every intention of completing the project and was motivated by the wonderful art journaling videos that Teesha Moore had on her blog. I started and got quite a few pages painted and the borders collaged and then I just couldn't get into the subject matter and set it aside.
So NOW I'm motivated to recycle this sketchbook for this challenge after watching Pam Cariker's Recycled Journal Pages, which is part of Strathmore's FREE Visual Journal Online Workshop Series!
Pam's was the first out of three different artists in this series and each workshop lasts four weeks and each week you have access to videos and downloadable instruction sheets. Simply join and Interact with others as well by participating on discussion boards, or upload images or comment in photo gallery.
Here is a scanned image of what I got done today for the first page and the inside cover. On the outside of the library pocket I've adhered a recent photo of myself and inside the pocket I plan on putting a quick calorie counting chart for completing my food journal every day.
For the first page, I simply altered the image that Rhonna provided for us for this challenge, after adhering it to the previously collaged page. I love the way the butterfly "matches" my animal print borders. THAT and the fact that Rhonna used ELEPHANTS in her graphic as well...how cool is that?...I ask you! I added depth to the page and tied all the elements together by smudging some charcoal pencil around the borders of the graphics and the edges of the collaged images. Then I added the dates for my 6 week shape up challege and said...Enough! On to the next page...
On these pages, again, I've added the graphic that Rhonna provided for us for this challenge, as well as my before photo of me stepping on the scales ;) Then I blended all the elements together with some white and black charcoal pencil and then added some SPARKLE with some glitter on the little girls wings and crown (which you can't see in this scanned image ;) There will be more journaling added, but first, I wanted to get these pages scanned and posted before it got too late. Cause, like Rhonna...I love to watch The Biggest Loser!
How is everyone else doing with their 6 week shape up challenge?
Be sure to hop on over to Rhonna's blog and for her weekly check in Tuesday and share...your journey, your struggles, your successes... with all of us.
Fondly, Roberta
You are so talented....I need to plan a trip and come hang with you for awhile....you inspire me!!!

What a beautiful start! You are so creative and it really shows in everything you do. I think more people would be willing to keep a food diary if it could be as pretty as yours.
