One of my 13 Favorite Solutions for Storing in Style are Trays and that is why I have listed them as my number one favorite item on my sidebar pages:
Cutlery Trays or Knife Boxes are another one of my favorite solutions and I have several of them here at the Love Shack and some are used as they were originally intended...that is as cutlery trays...
This black one was once brown and I've had this for over 25 years now and have always used it as my everyday silverware/cutlery tray. I touch up the nicks from the silverware every once in a while with a little butchers wax and it looks like new. I have always liked silverware trays set out on my kitchen counters because I hate having to open up a drawer to pull out a knife or fork when I'm in the middle of cooking...I'm a very messy cook :} AND that always meant that my kitchen drawer fronts had to be wiped down with the rest of the kitchen...this also stops me from getting everything else inside of the drawers dirty as well!
Above, is a photo of a newer cutlery tray and because the kitchen in the Love Shack is so big (right ;) I had to have one tray on each side of the kitchen. Previously I had this box filled with small Apothecary Jars (another one of my favorite storage solutions) filled with our daily vitamins, but I found that I was constantly walking across the room to find a fork when I was cooking or a knife to butter my toast. So I moved the vitamins to the bathroom and re-assigned this tray in the kitchen.
Below you will see a very large cutlery tray that I found a few years ago, and it was listed as a tool box...so true because it has been a real work-horse for me and I have found several ways to put it to use over the years.
So now it sets on the counter in my bathroom and holds my small apothecary jars as well as my husband's electric hair trimmers/razors...they are plugged in and functional but look great placed in th back of this box. I placed a reed diffuser in the front to "diffuse" the view the electronics...looks great!!
This week while hopping around in blog land...I stumbled upon this lovely photo...of another large tray being used in a master bedroom...
I so love Sarah Richardson and her new show on HGTV, Sarah's House, and for some reason I missed the entire series for this cottage! So I was having so much fun checking out all the shots on-line and felt some sort of connection when I saw that Sarah also likes using these great trays/boxes to control the clutter when decorating her home!
Wow! I am in love with this...totally awesome!!

I absolutely love trays too! Any kind! Thanks for the kitchen counter idea- with a full house like mine, this would be perfect- and would clear up a drawer that I could use for something else. Thanks Roberta:)
