Very busy around here at the Love Shack this week getting ready for our community yard sale. AND since I bought lovely new RED towels for our bathroom I want to sell our old towels...which means that I needed to wash the new ones...nothing like lots of lint on new towels :D
So here is my tip for today's Typical Tuesday: when you have new towels or clothing and you want to set the color so that it doesn't fade...SOAK your items in your washing machine with one cup of WHITE VINEGAR. (If you have to go to the laundry mat, then soak them in your tub or sink before going.)
Just place your items in your machine and set the appropriate wash cycle and wait for your machine to fill up with water. Before the wash cycle begins...stop your machine and reach inside and make sure that there is enough water to cover all the items that you have placed in your machine. Then pour in one cup of WHITE VINEGAR and mix it around with your hands. Set your timer and let your items soak for one hour...when the timer goes off...add your laundry detergent and fabric softener and let your machine run it's course. When the wash is done...place your items in your dryer and dry them accordingly. If you are washing towels for the first time like me...then be prepared to empty your link screen more than once...I swear I could have knitted a small sweater with all the red link these towels left behind in my lint screen :D
WHITE VINEGAR is such a versatile pantry item that works wonders in the kitchen and around the house as a non-toxic cleaning agent. I use to buy it in the largest bottle the store had...but now with the limited storage available here at the Love Shack...I have to make do with the smaller bottles!
Hope you all find this tip helpful and that you have a great week, fondly, Roberta
