One Little Word 2012 {February} Photo Journaling

Our assignment for the month of February in Ali Edwards One Little Word on-line class with Big Picture Scrapbooking was all about "cultivating an awareness of our words in the world by looking through the lens of our cameras"  {Ali says it best ;}

Since I'm already taking loads of photos for my Project Life Album, making the effort to take photos of images that represented "JOY" to me, really just added a new level of consciousness to how I took photos.  This month I have a two page spread {almost three :} for my One Little Word Album. 

In the Studio: Canvas Create Friday

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This week in the studio I was finishing up my monthly assignment for February's Canvas Create which was to included a heart and loads of texture for your multi-media canvas.   The products that I choose were white, pink, and yellow acrylic paints along with some turquoise ink and copper metallic paint for accents.

Wow another crazy week in the studio...and I've got canvases blooming all over the place to prove it here at the Love Shack to share with you for sneak peek friday.  Currently I am enrolled in TWO art courses: first there is Flora's Bloom True: the e-course and second is Donna's Canvas Create monthly video series.  I had the bright idea that...while I was working on one project and....ahem...patiently waiting for it to dry...then I could just pull out the next project and move right along ;}  I am  driven by the limited space that I have here and that while I have my paints out, then it only behooves me to work on multiple projects.  Lord knows that I hate to even think about trying to pull out and work on my photo albums while I'm trying to paint...not a good idea at all!

This week was so much more productive in the studio once my back and neck started to feel better!  I'm so lovin' itthe way my first class project in Traci Bautista's, doodles unleashed, on-line workshop with Strathmore Paper.

Stormy Day in the studio this Sneak Peek Friday

Wow what a week it has been this week in the studio!  It started off slow because my lower back went out on Sunday evening after I simply reached inside the refrigerator for some juice to make our Spinach Smoothies.  In the past...I've had problems with my back going out...but this time it was like an electric shock went up my back.  Thank goodness I keep Doan's pills on hand ;}  So I pretty much had to take it easy around here and that really bums me out when I have so much that I want to work on!  My lower back was starting to feel better and I was happy that I was able to at least get one week done in my Project Life album.  But by Thursday I had a stiff neck so I kept taking the occasional Doan's to alleviate the mild pain in my neck.  So this morning I was feeling really good and was excited to go out and get the groceries at Trader Joe's so that I could come back and play in my studio.

The weather around here today has been crazy!  This morning we didn't need an alarm clock because the harsh rain and wind woke us up around 7:00am.  Then we had a quick break in the weather and just as I was about to head out the door...this is what I saw...

Joy is Rising in the studio this week and I'm so Lovin' It that I get to share my latest project, Canvas Create, with you all.  Talk about a perfect way to end a very productive week! 

First I had to clean up my desk and put away all of my scrapbooking materials so that I could set up my painting supplies...I've learned from past spills to just get up off of my butt and put the stuff away ;}

I guess you could say that it is one of the downfalls of having a small studio and living space...but it sure does keep me on my toes.  The benefit of it is that you always know where your stuff is because you have to put everything away after using it...and in my book that is a good thang ;}

It's Turquoise and Pink...JOY...JOY...For My One Little Word Album

Thank goodness it's Friday the 13th!

I could hardly wait to give you a Sneak Peek of what I've been working on in my studio this week.  It's my brand new turquoise album that I got for my One Little Word album...talk about JOY ;}

At first I wasn't even sure if I was going to purchase an album for this project?  But then I decided that I really wanted to enjoy the entire process...the journey...so I wanted an album to match my enthusiasm.  So when I just happened to be in Archiver's earlier this week...with a coupon no less (he, he, he) and I saw this bright turquoise We R Memories binder...and it being the last one of its kind on the shelf...I took it as a clear sign!  Wouldn't you?

My One Little Word 2012: Joy

Last year I participated in the My One Word project by picking the word "Habit" and making a conscious effort, all year long, to establish and maintain habits that would sustain a healthy lifestyle.  I feel like we were very successful but this year I wanted to take this project even further by participating in Ali Edwards One Little Word on-line class with Big Picture Scrapbooking.

Each month you’ll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you’ll have compiled the contents of an 8.5×11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.

You do NOT need to be a scrapbooker for this class.  We are making an album...but...it’s really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project.   It is up to you as to how you interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for your own life.  This workshop is not meant to be complicated or time-consuming.   The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2012.

Freedom to Create In the Studio

Last time I posted about my week at Art n’Soul in Portland, Oregon I told you all about how I had experienced some of the best instructors that I’ve ever had at any art event.  My week started out with a bang with Dan Carrel in his Transformational Painting class and ended with the big bang theory with two days of Jesse Reno's Freedom to Create classes.  

While I'm still completing The {31} Purge...I wanted to share my class projects with you this week in the studio before I forget all the fantastic details.  Jesse's Freedom to Create class is usually held as a one-day class, but after seeing other students who had taken his one-day course when I went to Virginia's Art n'Soul...I knew that I wanted to take TWO days so that I could get the processes down.  So now...for next year's events...they are offering Jesse's class as a comprehensive two-day class and I highly recommend it!

In the beginning...everyone starts out with big 24x30" BLANK pieces of heavy bristol paper and only five colors of non-toxic acrylic paint that Jesse provides...white, red, yellow, blue and black!

Jesse explains it best: "this two day mixed media painting class is an expansion on my one day class. the idea is to give students more time to digest the individual ideas, concepts and techniques of my one day class. this class is open to any level student/artist all my class begin with simple ideas and techniques the complexity comes in understanding how to own them engage in them and believing in them.. by having two days we have more opportunity to breathe between steps and ideas this means more critique, as well as time for me to question and exemplify the applications and concepts."

Jesse started out on the table-top with an easel as he explained his concepts to us but it wasn't long before he moved to his favorite place...the floor!

CHAOS In the Studio This Week

In the beginning...everyones' canvases look like what Dan Carrel refers to as CHAOS..but not for long!
