This week in the studio I was finishing up my monthly assignment for February's Canvas Create which was to included a heart and loads of texture for your multi-media canvas. The products that I choose were white, pink, and yellow acrylic paints along with some turquoise ink and copper metallic paint for accents.
Since I wanted to include my canvas in my Project Life 2012 album for the month of February, I also thought that it was appropriate that it also incorporate the celebration for the Chinese New Year which was celebrated on February 23rd. 2012 is also the Year of the Dragon and I always love to learn about my future as fore-casted by the Chinese Zodiac. So I found the information on-line and typed it up in a word document so that I could print it and incorporate it onto my canvas...there was simply too much information for me to try to include it as journaling.
In the right-hand corner of my canvas I have placed the Chinese character for Dragon...by finding the sign/character on-line and blowing it up and printing it out. Then I simply rubbed a pencil on the back of the plain printer paper and placing the paper on top of my canvas and tracing over the top of the original image...this transferred the basis shape onto my canvas so that I could go over it with black ink.
When calculating your Chinese fortune you need to know the longitude for your place of birth along with the time of your birth...thank goodness that they have tons of on-line calculators that do this for you because I wouldn't have a clue? I was born in Ethiopia and I'm guessing on the time being around 8:30 am from what I can remember my Mom telling be for my time of birth. So once I had the longitude and time...I simply plugged them into an on-line form to get my Fortune Forecast:
Ever since we lived in Taiwan when we were kids it has always held a special place in my heart and so I loved the idea of incorporating these oriental elements into my collage. I began with cutting out the shape of a heart from a Chinese newspaper that I had picked up when we were in Portland, OR last year for Art n'Soul. Portland is the sister city for Taiwan and I just love it when things come together with real meaning in a collage like this month ;}
So happy with the final results of my canvas...it was touch and go for a bit...but I walked away from it before getting too frustrated and stopped myself from over-correcting it and/or from making mud.
Now I have another completed project to add to my album, as well as...a memorable way for me to refer back to...all year long when I have questions regarding my Chinese forecast.
How about it...have you calculated your Chinese fortune for 2012?
Be sure to let me know in the comments section. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.
Fondly, Roberta
