Joy is Rising in the studio this week and I'm so Lovin' It that I get to share my latest project, Canvas Create, with you all. Talk about a perfect way to end a very productive week!
First I had to clean up my desk and put away all of my scrapbooking materials so that I could set up my painting supplies...I've learned from past spills to just get up off of my butt and put the stuff away ;}
I guess you could say that it is one of the downfalls of having a small studio and living space...but it sure does keep me on my toes. The benefit of it is that you always know where your stuff is because you have to put everything away after using it...and in my book that is a good thang ;}
So out comes my paint pallet, my water buckets, my splatter papers...and all the paints and brushes that I want to use for this particular project. On the floor you can see a 12"x12" album that holds all of my stencils...great way to organize them when you buy one of the inexpensive albums at Michaels.
For those of you who haven't heard...Donna Downey, is teaching a painting class called Canvas Create. It is a monthly video series/class that takes you step-by-step through the process of creating art canvases. Each month's canvas will be a little different as it highlights new techniques, tools and products.
At first I was a little hesitant to participate since I don't have the "wall space" to hang any of the canvases that I'd be creating. Then I had a big PUSH from all my Inspired friends {and Donna ;} AND then I remembered that I had this pad of 12"x12" linen canvases just hanging around...waiting for me to do something with them!
Seriously folks...it was one of those light-bulb moments...I decided that I would create 12"x12" canvases that would encompass all of my year-long classes/projects. Quotes, images and journaling from One Little Word and Scrapbook Life Journal are all to be showcased on my canvases and placed in my Project Lifealbum. What a cool way to actually see my art through-out the year...don'tcha just love it when things have a way of working out? Oh yeah!
So last night after I got all settled in...I started painting my first background. I realized as I was painting with my fingers...that I hadn't really painted anything since Art n'Soul in the fall! Say what? It's so weird that I have to wait for a class to paint...because painting sooooo relaxes me...I'm loving it that I will be doing more of it this year ;}
After following Donna along in the Canvas Create video...this is what I ended up with ;}
I choose the words "joy rising" because Donna had used these words in her video describing the classes and it "just worked" for me...if that makes sense...lol My inspiration for the colors came from this photo that I took while on vacation in Charleston.
All the lovely patina, texture and colors...it's my happy place...it's JOY RISING...
How about you...what does JOY RISING look like for you?
Please be sure to join in and share it in the comments and let me know if you are enjoying Donna's class as well. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Fondly, Roberta

This is gorgeous! I love the colors. What a great inspiration photo... that patina is amazing. Did you use something to give your stencil dimension? It doesn't look flat... unless you did that with paint. I love 'joy rising'. Sounds like a fun class. Beautiful work Roberta!!

Oh my gosh...I LOVE this canvas! The texture, the colors, the words - perfect! Also, stencils in a album instead of thrown in a bin (like mine) is brilliant. I am going to have to try that for sure. I am also dying to try Project Life. I don't have all my supplies yet...so I hope to start in February. :)
