Today my oldest son, Mitchell, gave me the following link to these videos in response to my post yesterday about poverty, literacy and the social conditioning that is happening to our children today.
WOW...is all I can say...if you are a parent than you REALLY need to watch these videos so that you can protect your children as they grow.
It is so ironic for me that my son referred these to me because, when my boys were young, we had no Cable TV, video games or computer games in our house. For a few years we lived overseas in Italy and getting away from TV was not an issue there because we had limited access to American TV...the rest was in Italian and since we didn't speak much of the language we just didn't turn the tube on. Then when I got divorced and came back stateside, I didn't pay for cable TV and so we were limited to those stations that my antenna could pick up.
As far as I was concerned...it didn't matter because as a single parent, who had to work outside of the home...I wanted to be with my boys as much as possible when I was home with them. If the TV was on at all, it was to watch VHS movies together as a family...I didn't use it to "occupy" my kids so that I could do other things. I had also invested in alot of creative toys like LEGOS, Construx (cool building toys by Fisher Price like the original Erector sets), every kind of art supply and science project that I could afford. As Mitchell got older, he at times, complained because we didn't have "real"...a.k.a. cable TV...and also because I refused to buy (or allow anyone else to buy them) ANY type of video games, like Nintendo. I think he thought I was the toughest, meanest Mom around...lol
So this is why I find it ironic that now he is sending me these links! Now he knows (and appreciates) that I wasn't being MEAN...I just loved them THAT MUCH to risk them being mad at me at the time!
btw...I still have all of their LEGOS and Construx put away in storage for my Grand-Babies to have :D
