Joy is Rising in the studio this week and I'm so Lovin' It that I get to share my latest project, Canvas Create, with you all. Talk about a perfect way to end a very productive week!
First I had to clean up my desk and put away all of my scrapbooking materials so that I could set up my painting supplies...I've learned from past spills to just get up off of my butt and put the stuff away ;}

I guess you could say that it is one of the downfalls of having a small studio and living space...but it sure does keep me on my toes. The benefit of it is that you always know where your stuff is because you have to put everything away after using it...and in my book that is a good thang ;}

Whoops...there I go...signing up for another one...Sketchbook Project that is!
Project dates:
- October 31, 2011: Sign up by
- January 31, 2012: Postmark your book by
- April, 2012: Tour starts
Anyone - from anywhere in the world - can be a part of the project.To participate and have ArtHouse send you a sketchbook that will go on tour, simply start by choosing a theme here.
This year I' choosing the theme...Fill Me With Stories...
Last year my theme was Inside/Outside and I filled my sketchbook with the story and the details about our downsizing and moving into our new life here at the Love Shack. This year I want to document the rest of the stories of our lives before I forget all the details and the special moments. I want my children to have a place to go to when they want to read the significant stories of my life, such as:
- How I met my husband and fell in love with him.
- About our first date and that it was on a Friday the 13th.
- The birth story of my first son on July 13th, also a Friday!
- The birth story of my second son on April 13th...such a significant number for our family.
- My father's last days.
- The jobs that I have held and how they have made me very old and wise :}
- About the foreign places that I have lived, Africa, Taiwan, Panama and Italy.
- About the states that I have lived in and my love of the South.
- About my parents and where they came from.
The list goes on and I know that I will not have any trouble filling my sketchbook with some photos and their stories from the past. In a sense it will be autobiographic (and somewhat of a scrapbook) but it will be less about the photos and embellishmentss and more about all those profound moments.

This week I had one of my infamous light bulb moments when I pulled out a box of my parents photos to sort and organize them into the Becky Higgins binder and photo sleeve pages that I had purchased earlier this summer...specifically for this project. I was really motivated after working on my Week in the Life project and using the 8 1/2" x 11" 3-ring binder and photo sleeves and not having to use alot of adhesives, card-stock and ephemera to complete album pages...oh yeah!
However, once I opened up the box of photos and was reminded of just how many there were AND how many different sizes there were...I was soon to discover that I would need a heck of a lot more of the photo sleeves pages AND in totally different size combinations than what I had on hand. Combine that with the fact that the photos were in sad shape and so many were fading and yellowing...oh boy!
Then I remembered that in the beginning of the year I had also purchased a mini scanner (at Bed, Bath n'Beyond on sale AND with a coupon ;) that could scan slides, negatives and PHOTOS. My original intention for this baby was to convert the tons of slides that my parents had taken when we were kids and living all of the world. So I dug it out and quickly set it up...Pandigital Photo, Slide & Negative Converter

Wow...trying to get my head around the fact that the first week in August has just flown by! This week I've been very busy {like when am I not?}...hence why time just zips right on by! But I'm Lovin' It...in the studio with the two different projects I'm currently creating.
Last week while I was consciously taking photos and documenting daily for my Week in the Life album, I did make the time to edit/crop and place an order for some of the pictures for my Summer Travel Journal from our vacation in June/July. So this week when the packet arrived in the mail...I couldn't wait to tear it open! I am always pleasantly surprised...even when I know what the pictures are of since we are in the digital age...I still get a thrill from physically holding onto and viewing real photographs ;) Especially when I see the photo of DH in flip-flops...it's a first for him...look close and you can see the tell-tale sock lines on his ankles...lol

This week I have been SO MUCH more productive and I'm Lovin' It working on my Summer Travel Journal and my Summer Art Journal in my studio. I have continued to draw inspiration from Teresa McFayden's eworkshop, Paint Paper Paste and from Ali Edwards, Scrap Book on the Road.
For my Summer Travel Journal I continued with collaging more pages that I cut down to fit inside the album where I will be attaching gathered items like ticket stubs, post cards and trip ephemera.
