Almost an Extreme Couponer...with a total savings percentage of 56%
It was so satisfying to go shopping with my coupons in hand and my detailed list with good foods in mind. I really did feel like an Extreme Couponer as I handed the cashier my first 20 coupons (my store only allows 20 coupons per day to be tripled ;) and I found myself counting the "dings" as she scanned each one. Then I handed her the second batch of coupons that did not meet the criteria for being tripled...which were any with a value over $.99/cents or ones for free items...and watched as the balance due continued to decrease. Final Cost $52.71 for a total retail value of $117.45!
It really was not that difficult to find coupons on-line and from the newspapers for food items that were not full of toxic sludge and that really made my day! For instance...our store had Special K cereals on sale for $2.47 a box...normally they sell for $3.79 a box. Then I found coupons on-line for $.75/box and after tripling them I paid only $.22/cents per box. Next, there was an in-store special on all General Mills cereals which was $4.00 off your total purchase if you bought 4 boxes in one shopping purchase. Then I found coupons on-line {again ;} for any flavor of Cheerios for $.75/box. So four boxes of Multi-Grain Cheerios at $3.99/box totaled $15.96 before discounts/coupons...ended up costing me a total of $2.96 or $.74/cents per box.
Granted DH and I will not eat all of this cereal...so I'm off to find recipes to make up some yummy, good for you breakfast bars to share wih my family. Since blueberries, strawberries and blackberries were all on sale this week for bogof...I can't wait to see what I can cook up!
As you look closer you will find a few items, such as the Hormel, Fully Cooked Bacon, which some would deem "un-healthy" because of the nitrates, etc. However, this is not a normal purchase for us and once in a while we will indulge in a few slices of bacon.
Same goes for the Country Crock tub of margarine, the Snickers candy bars, the Peanut M&M's and the brown sugar...these items will find their way into some treats for future care packages that I send off to my family...they are not an everyday way of life for us or my family members. After all, baking and cooking items for my family, in lieu of purchasing "packaged" ones, does give me some piece of mind over all the ingredients.
Triple coupons are so worth the time and effort when you break down the numbers. Remember...numbers do not lie! The original face value for the first 20 coupons was $12.65. Add to that the additional doubled amount of $24.52 for a total value of the tripled coupons being $37.17. Add to that the total for the other coupons that I used at $8.49 and then add the store discounts of $19.08 and you have a total savings of $64.74. Which is more that I paid for the total order...remember $52.71...woo hoo! Like I said...almost an Extreme Couponer!
How about you...anyone else out there got the fever? Do share!
Fondly, Roberta

I did my clipping this morning and now I'm just waiting for the Tuesday flyer to see what sales will be good this week. I cleaned the fridge and cabinets out today too (I have PMS)so now I have a lot of space for my stockpile.
